‘Sons of Ben’ are a unique duo led by award winning film composer,Guy Dagul.
They are an unconventional duo producing challenging music which reflects their cinematic and songwriting backgrounds. Guy, an award winning, classically trained musician, composer and producer, has collaborated on movie scores for films such as ‘Last of the Mohicans’, ‘Cliffhanger’, ‘Dangerous Liaisons’ and ‘Mississippi Burning’ with the likes of Trevor Jones and George Fenton. Rod has written music and lyrics for Clare Teal and Lance Ellington
Their music can best be described as Psychedelic Blues being an idiosyncratic mix, diverse and challenging, sexy and sensual yet dark and, at times, menacing with an unpredictable mix of beautiful live instruments and voice. Guy has his own studio in Oxford, Benson Studio, where they compose and produce their music.
Always searching for new and inventive ways to express themselves, the inspiration for their latest challenging and original new album 'A Week In L.A.' came, not surprisingly, from a road trip to Los Angeles.
Immersing themselves in a culture so completely alien to theirs they used the experience to create this extraordinary album. Struck by the vast divide in the people and structure of the city, this album reflects their reactions and emotions. The decision to use spoken word on four of the tracks reflects Guy’s belief in the purity of music – he designed the words to be a commentary for the music and its roots therefore not deflecting from the music.
